The winning Photograph from LPOTY 2021 'Landscapes at Night'
Titled
'Once in a Lifetime'
Neowise comet appearing in our skies for a few weeks only then gone forever in our lifetime, an image that had to be chased. I decided I wanted an iconic location facing a north easterly direction and set about planning.
I had been out from early afternoon photographing waterfalls in Snowdonia then onto sunset at Llandwyn Island, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and at that moment of disappointment I realised my chance to get the comet had come to fruition. I headed over the other side of Anglesey to Penmon Point, facing North East, with clear skies as twilight faded to dark skies and there up above me was the comet. I knew I wanted a portrait orientation and found a spot in amongst the star gazers that were littered all over the place. I waited for the tide to be at the right height and as it reached the area I needed the cloud started to arrive, however the formation added to the overall photograph as it made a sort of symmetrical mimicry of the land. An amazing experience, in fact,
a once in a lifetime experience.
Thank you to LPOTY for choosing this image. It is a special image for me, one that has exceeded all my expectations
